London Learning Centre finds all forms of harassment and bullying unacceptable, whether it is from or to students or staff.
Bullying and/or harassment is mental, physical or verbal actions intended to intimidate, humiliate or exploit others and which is seen as unacceptable behaviour in an educational environment and workplace.
Examples or harassment or bullying:
- the use of social exclusion e.g. isolating individuals
- the use of negative names, phrases or language that could be considered offensive by the individual
- persistent and deliberately wounding or hurtful remarks especially where such remarks refer to an individual’s origins, sexuality, physical appearance or personality attributes.
- repetitive actions or sounds which are intended to provoke individuals into anger
- actively spreading deliberately hurtful untruths about an individual
- the use or threatened use of physical action/violence
These are only examples and not a finite list.
What to do
If you feel uncomfortable with the treatment you are receiving from another person or other people please talk to a member of the London Learning Centre staff.
If you believe that another person is being bullied please talk to a member of the London Learning Centre staff.
Procedure
- The Director will undertake a thorough investigation of the matter.
- In proven cases of bullying the Director will give a verbal warning to the offender.
- If the behaviour persists the student will receive a written warning.
- If there is no change the student will be expelled from the college and a dismissal letter issued to this effect. The Home Office is always notified in the case of a dismissal.
